Cancer. For many, this is an incredibly frightening word. What goes through one's mind when hearing the words, "I'm sorry, you have cancer"? Regardless of a person's station in life, the diagnosis of cancer tends to have a strong visceral impact. Many patients describe thoughts and fears of their mortality and loss of longevity. Big questions tend to come to the surface. Will I survive? Will I be healthy? Will my spouse be ok? What about the kids? What will become of us financially? The depth and breadth of responses are as diverse as the people we serve. The diagnosis of cancer has profound consequences not only for the person with cancer, but for everyone who cares for that person. The effects are not only physical, but can often be more profoundly emotional and spiritual in nature. At Lighthouse Oncology we recognize that cancer is a multi-faceted disease and requires a comprehensive, collaborative therapeutic approach. Treatment consists of state of the art science combined with empathy and a compassionate team of healthcare professionals and volunteers united with the goal of improving the lives of all affected by a cancer diagnosis.
